The Ulquiorra Mask Tutorial by IridiumFlames The Ulquiorra Mask Tutorial by IridiumFlames
About a year ago, I made Ulquiorra Schiffer's Hollow mask. It was one of those rare creations that I actually liked, and considering how hard it was, I decided to make a tutorial. I included all the information I could think of, but since it's my first tutorial, it will undoubtedly be missing things.

If you have any questions, please comment! I only wish to improve!

Tools: (for tutorial) Photoshop Elements 8, camera
(for mask) Fast Mache, wire mesh, silk ribbon

Eh, do you mean through Paypal or suchlike? I don't know how to do these things through deviantart. I've actually never been commissioned, I've no idea how it works.

Could you put up a listing on eBay or something with it? I don't either xD Paypal is how I usually pay for my stuff online. If not, I'll probably find another person/way to get it

I would do this if I knew how... (sighs) My hope of actually selling anything I made was so low I never set it up to begin with when I made my ebay account.

You're welcome; and I know it won't benefit me, but perhaps you could commission someone near you with fancy art skills to make you the mask? This way you're able to have it made well, as well as the way you want, and you don't have to muddle through online payments and such.

You're most welcome, and yes it did. Although, that is considering that I bought everything in a store (if you're unable to find ANYTHING at a store the shipping might add on a little). But it still should be cheaper- and it comes out so nice!

Huh...I have not heard of it. But now I want to know what it is so...

(Google)

The Activ-Wire mesh sounds good, it looks to be the same that I used. And 12" x 24" should be plenty if you're just making Ulquiorra's mask. I actually used leftover mesh from something else, that should be fine.

Would you suggest this method for other crafts of this type? For a cosplay that I'm going to make, the character has a black helmet (like a motorcycle helmet) but I'm not going to spend 100$+ on it
Your method seems easy (enough) and would be light weight but if you don't think it'll work (or you do think it'll work) let me know :)

I think if you sand it with a finer grit of sandpaper than I used (much finer- motorcycle helmets are pretty smooth, go for 200-something grit), it would work quite well. I would mold the mesh around my head before macheing, though, to make sure it wouldn't end up comically large or small.

Ah! Forgot to tell you- use a heavier grit sandpaper FIRST, otherwise you will spend HOURS more than you need. Use the 200-grit after...And ye be welcome!

If I knew how I certainly would!! I just don't know how you set it up. Do you just make an object and then mail it to someone once they pay you??

And thank you! I did work hard on both helmet and tutorial.

...i also made ulquiorras mask for a cosplay...i used model magic on a bowl. it was nowhere near as difficult to make and also probably much lighter. all i did was cut strips for the neck area and the "horn/fin". It took me about and hour total

Yah, mine took a good two weeks or so (stupid overnight drying). But I really like how it came out, it's actually really close to the reference pictures I was using (and now I will forever know how to draw his helmet).

same here, i used to have trouble with drawing his helmet, but not after i made it. I dont know if you ran into the same problem that i did, but i found that my refrence pictures didnt match (some had a longer horn/fin, some went all the way down his neck) the only thing that you actually have to get right is the area around the eye b/c that never changes.

Yes. It's actually noted that his design changes on the Bleach Wiki (did thorough research- studious face), so I decided to go with the most recent drawings, as I figured that's what Mr. Kubo decided he should look like. Plus the more recent version is also more streamlined and fits to his head better, meaning it'd be easier to move in.
